1. She is not afraid to go several days without showering.
2. She is not afraid of getting a unicorn tattoo, although it has not happened quite yet.
3. She has a really fat cat named Lilly.
4. She loves Jesus deep down in her heart and trusts him and prays a lot and thinks about deeper things/questions in life.
5. She knows special needs Russian orphans by name and carries them in her heart.
6. She took a huge risk - packed up her life, her cat in a crate, and all her ambition - loaded it into a sedan, and set off across the country to move to St. Helena in Napa Valley in August 2009. She took this leap to attempt to really live! and to run this Nobel-Prize-nominated Fair Trade store called Baksheesh
7. I saw her this weekend (thank God) and she gave me lots of free stuff from Baksheesh
8. For every item she presented from Baksheesh, she could tell me where and by whom it was made. This list included former prostitutes in Indonesia working to make better lives for themselves, artisans from Uganda, and artisans from disparaged populations in India.
9. Her mom's name is Bruce.
10. She is very kind to me when I call her sobbing and nearly incoherent.
11. She and I have both been in many, many weddings.
12. She does not have a facebook account.
13. She also came to Beth and Grafton's to get snowed in post Superbowl. She did not judge me for my reasoning to root for the Saints (bc of Katrina, obviously) and we shared this trundle bed, a la elementary school sleepover style on Sunday night in the newly decorated deButt's guest room. This sleeping arrangement made me smile and made me very happy.
In summary, Katie Winters Schnable is very wonderful and if you don't know her I feel sorry for you.
