It's Nice to Hear About an Effective Neighborhood Watch

The latest from Cape Town...

From Mariah 2/4/10

tonight there's a steak out going on in our neighborhood. there have been tire slashings for the past three weeks! some people have had their tires slashed three different times! we've only had it happen to us once. so we had a neighborhood crime meeting and we've got a steak out going. we've hired a guy to hide in the bushes (seriously) and watch the street. if he see's anything- he's armed with a tazer and a fog horn. he will blow the fog horn to alert everyone, run out- tazer the bad guys, and then the rest of us will run out when we hear the fog horn and come capture the criminal. obviously a very fool proof plan. we've got him booked for the next seven nights. so hopefully we catch the guy. let me just tell you the neighborhood crime meeting was so enjoyable- the characters that showed up. it was like out of a sit-com. a mr. ibrahim and a dr. ibrahim (no relation), mandy and roulond- a married couple in their 50's that speak over one another all the time, rose- the woman who lives next door with her 40 year old son (she knows everything that goes on in the neighborhood) and the list goes on. oh man- it was glorious. i'll let you know what happens!

<3!m.>

stake baby. stake.

most recently on this our watchman Austin sleeps almost all night every night and yet there hasn't been any further criminal activity on our street on any of those nights. his mere presence is less a feeling of safety and more a steady reminder of the neighbourhood watch meeting. you don't often live an actual sit-com for half an hour. so glorious.
