Leesburg Snowpocolypse 2K10

On Thursday afternoon I had to make a decision. I sat in a Home Depot parking lot in Glen Allen, VA and wrestled with this question - Do I finish out my business trip in Maryland tomorrow and stay true to my Katie Schnable weekend plans in Loudoun County amidst calls for 3 feet of snow this weekend, OR do I play it safe (and boring), give up, and drive back to VB right now?" I called lots of people for input - Greg Speier, Michelle Haddock, Mike Koch, Beth deButts. In the end I went with the person who told me what I wanted to hear... Beth! When she said, "Look, if we have to dig you out by 830 Monday morning, we will dig you out." I exclaimed, "Yes! See? I knew we cuold do it! I love Young Life people - where there is a will, there is a way." And I left that Home Depot parking lot and drove straight on till Baltimore!

While digging out le Honda on le driveway...

Beth: "It's easier to use your hand instead of the shovel around the tires... (beat) Unless you have shovels for hands."

Erin: "Edward Shovel Hands!"

Grafton, 'icing' his back after hours of shoveling in the driveway

Grafton: "Are you gonna make that frozen shrimp for the Superbowl party tomorrow?"

Beth: "No."

Grafton: "Good because I am sitting on it."

Beth: (irritated) "Grafton - you can't do that!"

Grafton: "Why?"

Beth: "Because shrimp are not like frozen blueberries. You can't thaw them and then refreeze them. Give them to me."

With the comments of naysayers, Chris and Grafton, echoing in our ears, Beth and I pressed on to make a path for sledding in the three feet of snow. It took a while, but we did it!

During the weirdest, like totally bizarro movie, District 9

Erin: "Vickus is really in a stinker of a situation."

Beth: "Yep. He's in a real pickle."

Chris: "Thanks, Captain Under Statement."
